Cheryl Maxwell has been working with The Polk County News in some capacity since her parents purchased the paper in 1983, when she was in the fifth grade. Cheryl would walk down to the paper from Benton Elementary School to wash dishes or otherwise make herself useful. She dabbled in sports photography while attending Polk County High School and has since explored nearly every aspect of the local newspaper business, including paste-up, reporting, ad sales and production.
Cheryl's current duties include layout of the weekly newspaper, editing the Polk County News' special sections, such as the Holiday Recipe Guide, Home Improvement, Bridal and Health sections, and editing copy and processing pictures for the weekly paper. She is also Circulation Manager.
"I love small-town living. I can't imagine ever being anywhere else but here. It's amazing to be a part of the history of an entire county."
Cheryl also owns The Newspaper Book Shop, housed inside the Polk County News office.
Cheryl is married to V.J. Maxwell and resides in Delano.
