Randy Buehler

Publisher Emeritus

Randy Buehler, Sr has been co-owner of the Polk County News since August, 1983. He has been involved with journalism and education for all of his adult life. His prime responsibilities at the Polk County news involve sports writing, copy editing and page layout on the editorial side. He also handles the business end of things.

Buehler and his wife, Ingrid, began their journalism careers at Towson State College (now Towson University) in Baltimore in 1964 as news and sports editors.

Buehler taught social studies, science and journalism in Maryland before returning to journalism as editor of a small weekly newspaper in southern Maryland in 1974. He worked his way up the ladder from sports editor to news editor to circulation director and finally to general manager of six newspapers in southern Maryland. He lectured at the American Press Institiute on several occassions.

"My heart never left the little paper I started at, however," he said. When the corporate life got unbearable the Buehlers looked for their own newspaper, finding and buying the Polk County News. He returned to education in 1992 working as Technology Director for the Polk County School system, retiring in 2006. Over the years, he has won more than 15 writing awards from the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association and the Tennessee Press Association.

"It took me 38 years to find a home, but I found it here in Polk County in 1983."
