In 1973, eight Polk County FFA members were presented with the highest award on the state level. The Polk chapter received the honor of having the highest percentage of members (10%) receiving the award in the state. The recipients of the State Farmer degree were Robert Benton, Curtis Trew, Gary Woody, David Gregory, Frank Lee, Buddy Creasman, Danny Williams and Steve Wilson.
