This year there have been four former Polk County High School athletes that have competed in college athletics on the national level.

This year there have been four former Polk County High School athletes that have competed in college athletics on the national level. Hollie German played on the Lee University basketball team that finished second in the NCCAA National Championship at Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind.; Keoni Vidrine and Evan Ball played on the Tennessee Wesleyan Golf Team that finished ninth nationally at Daytona Beach, Fl.; and Sydney Sloan played on the Chattanooga State softball team that finished third in the National TJCAA tournament at St. George, Utah.

German finished her four year career at Lee as the all-time scoring leader with 2,300 points and is fifth in career assists with 408. During this four year period Lee had a 114-20 won-loss record. German also reaped numerous personal accolades this year. She was named the Mid-East Region Player of the Year, NCAA DII All American (2013-2014), and Capital One Academic All American (2013-2014). She was also named to the NAIA All American Squad in 2012-2013 and was named as a NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the same season.

Tennessee Wesleyan finished ninth in the2014 NAIA Men’s Golf Tournament which is the highest they have ever finished in school history. There were twenty-nine schools competing represented by 156 players. Former Wildcat Golfers  Keoni Vidrine, a junior, tied for 19th with a score of 218 and Evan Ball, a freshman, tied for 75th with a score of 228 in the three round event. The other two TWC scorers were Josh Wheeler, a senior, tied for 5th with a 214 and Zack Hester, a sophomore, with a 246 tied for 149th.

Sloan started her collegiate softball career on a high note as Chattanooga State finished third in the TJCAA National Tournament with a 4-2 record. Sloan played third base and served as a designated hitter at times during the season. The Tigers finished the season with a 55-8 record overall which included a 31-5 conference record, and a perfect 25-0 record on their home field.
