Poker run a success
The event, officially titled the “POLK”er Run was created to bring two-wheeled tourism into the county and to get folks into parts of Polk they wouldn’t ordinarily see.
The Polk County Chamber of Commerce held its first ever Polker Run on Saturday May 3rd and motorcycle riders from Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina came out to participate in the ride.
The event, officially titled the “POLK”er Run was created to bring two-wheeled tourism into the county and to get folks into parts of Polk they wouldn’t ordinarily see. Stops included Cherokee Rafting Company, Savannah Oaks Winery, Reliance Fly & Tackle, and Wildwater Willie’s. After the motorcyclists toured the county, the ride ended at HWY 64 Gym Bar & Grill where local Bo Swafford entertained the crowd during the afternoon hours. Throwin’ Bones took the stage later in the evening. The American Legion Post 96 out of Copperhill was the food vendor for the event.
Visitors typically venture to the Ocoee area for the rivers and lakes and all they have to offer; but this ride brought visitors into the smaller communities like Delano, Reliance and Ducktown. The route took riders onto Hwy 30, with its hairpin turns and beautiful scenery, and then onto Hwy 64 for a fun and challenging ride.
“The Polk County Chamber of Commerce was happy to host this fantastic ride and was excited to welcome the many motorcyclists that this event attracted to our scenic roads. The Polker Run is a fun event that capitalizes on the great “motorcycle ride” options that the
County has and naturally generates interest from tourists and locals. The Chamber realizes the value of “day drives” and “rides” to our tourism product and will continue to support this event to ensure its success,” said Tom Tohill, Chamber president.
The “POLK”er Run was sponsored by First Volunteer Bank, Wildwater LTD., and Persimmon Creek Campground.
