The Polk County Sheriff’s Department is looking for help in locating the whereabouts of suspects involved in a scam that resulted in the theft of $1200 from the Ocoee Market BP located just outside of Benton. Anyone who recognizes the subjects is asked to call Detective Kevin Cole at the Sheriff’s Office.
According to a police report filed by Deputy Christopher McCoig, store owner Umang Patel reported one of his store clerks, Carla Long, told him she received a call from a man with an Indian accent who claimed to be Patel’s brother.
According to the report, Long said the man told her a lady was coming to pick up $3800 for the owner. At some point during the conversation, the report said, the amount changed to $1200.
Shortly after the call, a woman came into the store and said she was there to pick up the money; Long gave her the $1200.
Surveillance video shows the transaction and includes a clear view of the woman’s face. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s department.
