Election petitions filed
Several petitions have been filed and a few more have been picked up for the May 6 primary election.
Several petitions have been filed and a few more have been picked up for the May 6 primary election. Most county offices are up for election, along with all county commission seats, judge, and sheriff. The Democrat Primary for Sheriff has the most petitions being picked up, with four candidates seeking the nomination.
Petitions that have been returned and filed include Democrat Primary nominees Billy D. Baliles for Judge and Keith Barker for Sheriff. Republican Primary nominees who have filed include Sheena Gaddis and Earl Tipton, District 3 County Commission; James Woody, District 1 County Commission; Steve Ross, Sheriff; Mike Bell, State Senate; Jerri S. Bryant, Chancellor; Mike Sharp, Circuit Court Judge Part 2; and Lawrence Puckett, Circuit Judge Part 1.
Petitions that have been picked up, but not filed so far include those from Democrat Candidates Jamie Nicholson, Joe Price, and Rocky King for Sheriff; Blake Rymer and Hoyt Firestone for County Executive; Sally Love and Laura Crawford for General Sessions Judge; Gina Burchfiel and Natalie Rogers Cross for Trustee; Connie Clark and Casey Carver for Clerk of Courts; Donna (Kandi) Bramlett for Register of Deeds; Angie Sanford for County Clerk; Mark Bishop, Buster Lewis, and John Pippenger for District 1 County Commission; Isaac Bramblett, Greg Brooks, and Mike Curbow for District 2 County Commission; Daniel Deal and Daren Waters for District 3 County Commission. Republican candidate Scott Yates has picked up a petition for County Executive.
