Moving forward together is good
Progress is being made and steps are being taken toward the replacement of roofs at Copper Basin and Benton Elementary Schools. After months of wonder and worry, the process has officially begun. What’s great to see is that the School Board and County Commission plan to work hand-in-hand on the process.
There’s no question the project, which looks to cost over $3 million, will be tough on the county’s finances. We’re already strapped, and taxpayers really don’t have much more to give. But the work must be done. There’s no way around it. Parents, teachers, and board members alike are concerned about the welfare of our students, and no one is in disagreement about what has to happen.
It’s good to see there is no finger-pointing or laying of blame. Roofs don’t last forever. County Commissioners and School Board members agreed at a recent workshop to go over the bids together and make the decision together. This is a good sign. Working together on a large project like this is a much better scenario than the boards fighting one another.
Despite the magnitude of the financial burden, the roofs will be replaced. It’s understandable to still have concern for your child or grandchild, but it’s great to see the wheels are officially in motion.
