VIOLET DELORA CHEEK
Cheek, Violet Delora Cooper Robinson (Dee), of Foley, Ala., formerly of Madisonville, passed from this life on Sunday, October 20, 2013 in Foley, Ala. Born on April 1, 1920 in Robbinsville, N.C. to the late Mollielou Bessie Ayers and John Russell Cooper. After a 37 year career as Postmaster in Turtletown, Mrs. Cheek moved to Sweetwater to be near her son, Lee. She remained a member of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association) and was named Honorary National Life Member of the organization. Shortly before her death, Mrs. Cheek, accompanied by a former daughter-in-law, Renee (Gilbert) Richie, was able to visit her longtime friend and fellow Postmaster, Mamie Murphy of Coker Creek. The two 93 year old friends enjoyed reminiscing about the good times they had attending postal conventions over their long careers. She was also able to attend the annual Bachman Memorial Home Reunion during this visit. Bachman remained close to her heart throughout her lifetime. Survivors, daughter & son-in-law, Vesta Faye Robinson Cook & Jerry Cook, Gulf Shores, Ala.,, Grandchildren & spouses, Chris & Theresa Ledford, Susan & Steve Lewis, 4 great-grandchildren, all of Kennesaw, Ga., Also left to cherish special memories of Mrs. Cheek are the children & grandchildren of her second husband (Bud Cheek) who still live in the Polk/Monroe County area, Garvin Cheek and his son Ty, Janette & Charles McClure, Margie & E.L. Bowers and their sons John and Jason Qualls and Sarah Kincaid. Others who will remember her fondly are a niece and several nephews as well as special friends and caregivers, Wanda & Don Haynes. Preceded in death by husbands, Wilford M. (Bill) Robinson and William F. (Bud) Cheek, beloved son, Lee Robinson, great-granddaughter, Meghan Ledford (died at age 22 months), sisters, Gladys Cooper Finnell and Elsie Cooper Binney, brother, Glenn Cooper. A Celebration of Life Memorial service 3 P.M. Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Farner Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Farner Presbyterian Church, 138 Underwood Dr., Farner, TN 37333. Arrangements by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
