Early voting dates set for May Primary
Early voting will begin April 16th and end May 1st. Early voting in the Basin will be available April 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, and 29.
Election Commissioners voted to officially set May 6th as the date for the primary election and set 8 days in April for early voting in the Copper Basin area. Early voting will begin April 16th and end May 1st. Early voting in the Basin will be available April 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, and 29.
Administrator Steve Gaddis said voters will be marking ballots one the new machines arrive, so there is no way to know for sure how fast people will go through. Booths will be set up for voting, and each location will have an optical scanner to scan ballots in. If there is any problem with the ballot, the voter will know as soon as the ballot is scanned in.
Gaddis said there would be no total shutdown if something went wrong with the scanners, because ballots could be inserted into the box and run through a scanner at the election office.
Freeman Curbow said there would need to be a lot of schooling on the new machines. “We need to really know what we need to do,” he said. Gaddis said the system was pretty simple and if a ballot is rejected it will say why.
Pete Davis said the returning officers and judges would be the ones who needed training the most.
March 20th will be the final day to turn in petitions for primaries.
