73, of Epworth, GA

Mr. Jewel Veron, better known as "Jay," Chastain, age 73, of Epworth, GA passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.  Mr. Chastain was born on June 27, 1939 in Fannin County, GA to the late Leonard Leroy Chastain and Gladys Chastain.  He was a self-employed auto mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. Chastain delivered the Chattanooga New Free Press locally for several years and was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Chastain.

He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Larry Jay Chastain and Melissa Chastain of Blue Ridge, GA, and Michael V. Chastain of Mineral Bluff, GA; brothers, Leonard Chastain of Gulfport, Mississippi, Jerry Chastain of Chatsworth, GA, and Glen Chastain of Tunnel Hill, GA; two sisters, Joyce Cooper of Epworth, GA and Loretta Stamper of Epworth, GA; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Michael Collis officiating. Music was by Randy Beach.  Pallbearers were Stephen Chastain, Lonathon Chastain, Larry Chastain, Michael Chastain, Doug Stiles, and Sam Parr. Interment followed in Chastain Memorial Park.

Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of arrangements.
