This grant will supply the Benton Police Department with updated computer equipment and new video cameras, as well as help provide more training and pay for more officers on the road.
The third grant is for impaired driving enforcement for $18,000.00. The money from this grant will be used to purchase equipment that will help in the education, arrest, and prosecution of drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The remainder of the money will be allocated for overtime on check-points and saturation patrols. The total amount of grant funds to be received by the Benton Police Department is $38,899.96.
Benton Police Chief Rocky King stated, “The Benton Police Department has worked hard to receive this grant money. I think it is very important to ease the tax payer’s burden as much as possible. The money and equipment that we receive in grants not only makes us a better police department, but also helps take some of the load off of the tax payers. Being a part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Office has opened many doors for us over the last several years.” The police department has also taken advantage of the many state-certified classes valuable for officers to attend. Chief King stated that the more knowledge and training that we give our officers, the better they will serve the community.
