Polk County Fair coming
The Polk County Fair is just around the corner, slated for September 9-14 at the Polk County Showbarn in Benton. Fair President Joyce Stafford said she is looking forward to another great year at the fair and encourages adults and kids alike to enter exhibits in the fair on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8. Photography, artwork, sewing, crochet, vegetables, plants, flowers, and more can be entered to win ribbons and prizes. Judging will be held on Monday, September 9.
The Flag-Raising will be at 6 p.m. Monday, September 9, with speaker Rev. Betsy Switzer. The Pretty Baby Contests begin Monday night and will continue on Tuesday. Monday night also features the annual talent contest. “Elvis” will put on a performance following the baby contest on Tuesday. Entry forms for pretty babies will be available in the fair catalog, which will be inserted in next week’s Polk County News.
Wednesday night is Senior Citizen Night. A church service will begin at 6 p.m., followed by music and singing. Long-time fair board member and coordinator of the Gospel Music Caravan, Jasper Woody, who has passed away, will be honored this year.
Thursday night brings livestock shows throughout the evening. Karaoke will be held immediately following the sheep and beef shows. On Friday, local bluegrass artists Just Us will perform along with Jill England.
Saturday brings the Fairest of the Fair competitions, beginning at 3 p.m. with the Wee Miss competition. Little Miss will be held at 4 p.m., Pre-Teens will be judged at 6 p.m., Juniors at 7 p.m. and Fairest of the Fair at 8 p.m. Entry forms will be available in next week’s Polk County News.
Rides on the midway will be open nightly beginning at 6 p.m.
