Editorial opinion 6/19/2013
With county budget work underway and talks of long-term water contracts and Ocoee Whitewater Center rejuvenation afoot, it seems obvious the two things go hand in hand. We need money and recreation is our only real industry.
Whether or not the Whitewater Center becomes privatized or stays as it is, the county needs to look toward the future and take steps to ensure the recreation industry not only survives, but thrives. We need more revenue. Expenses continue to rise, things need to be done, and property tax revenue can not be the only thing to look at.
Are there things that we, as a county, can look at to bring more money into the county? Are county officials actively seeking ways to bring in more recreational opportunities? We need to look at all the ways to bring in more recreational dollars instead of just treading water.
