Two members of the local Republican Party challenged the results of a recent election of officers, alleging that the annual re-organizational meeting was not advertised and requesting another meeting be held that would include all members of the Republican Party.

TOHA’s mission is to promote and preserve the natural and cultural resources of McMinn, Monroe, and Polk counties through cultural tourism.
The Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association (TOHA) announced the launch of a new website to promote McMinn, Monroe, and Polk counties to tourists. Located online at www.tennesseeoverhill.com, the website was funded in large part by USDA Rural Development, with additional funding from Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, McMinn County, and Humanities Tennessee. One Hundred and Ninety Three small businesses and non-profit organizations in the three-county area are showcased on the site.
Linda Caldwell, Executive Director for TOHA, said, “We believe this website will stimulate expenditures at these local businesses and attractions while raising awareness of the Tennessee Overhill as a tourist destination.” She noted that the new website is only one component of a comprehensive strategy to utilize the Internet more effectively. The website will be promoted through paid advertising, search engine optimization, link exchanges, and social media.
The number of people who plan their vacations online increases substantially each month, a trend that presents an opportunity for TOHA to broaden its marketing reach. Nancy Dalton, TOHA Tourism Coordinator, said, “This is a very content rich website that is aimed at our niche markets. Cultural tourists will find information about museums, historic sites, art centers, Cherokee heritage, and music venues. Outdoor enthusiasts will be provided with ample information to plan an adventure on land or water. There is information about train excursions, nature, scenic drives, local agriculture products and handmade works of art. There is even a section for motorcyclists, complete with suggested rides and maps.”

Polk County’s road committee met last Tuesday to go over the list of county roads in an attempt to have an updated list that includes all county roads with their proper names as well as the mileage for the roads.
