A local 11-year-old got a sneak peek of what goes on behind-the-scenes of the American Idol television show while it was being filmed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Seu Jane Jacobi, whose father’s office is in the Oklahoma City Chesapeake Boathouse across from where the auditions were being held, made an impression and a friend during the two-week filming last November.
Seu was in Oklahoma City training in Sprint paddlesports, but was on hand at her father Joe’s office daily to do her schoolwork. Seu is enrolled in K12 Online School. During her time at the boathouse, she caught the attention of an American Idol Producer. Rob McCloud was impressed that Seu was less interested in the stars and talent, and more intrigued by the television production end of the equation. When she told him she had been involved with Steve Tompkins’s Copper Basin High School television program, it piqued his interests even more.
After learning of her interest, the producer adopted Seu as an intern both times the crew was in town shooting. She learned a lot of television production in those two weeks.
After production was wrapped up for the day, Seu returned the favor by boating with him each evening (pictured on back page). Seu paddled alongside him in flatwater kayaks on the Oklahoma River and taught him paddling skills. The river, which runs alongside the boathouse, was featured in the show.
