In previous years, the December jobless rate was: 2010, 11.6%; 2009, 12.9%; 2008, 9.9%; 2007, 6.1%; 2006, 4.9%.
Polk County’s
unemployment rate in December was 10.7%, up from 8.9% in November and down from
13.1% in December of last year. In previous years, the December jobless rate
was: 2010, 11.6%; 2009, 12.9%; 2008, 9.9%; 2007, 6.1%; 2006, 4.9%.
According
to the Department of Labor & Workforce Development, there were 6,590 people
with jobs in December, compared to 6,540 November, and 6,580 in December of
last year. There were 760 without jobs, compared to 640 in November and 970 a
year ago. The total labor force was 7,380, up from 7,170 in November and 7,540 from
December of 2011.
Across the
state, the rate increased in 93 counties, decreased in 2, and remained the same
in 0 counties. Tennessee’s rate for December was 7.6%, the same rate as
November. The highest rate was Scott County with 16.8%, followed by Obion
County with 13.1%. The lowest was Williamson County with 5.0%, followed by Lincoln
Co. with a rate of 5.3%.

jobless rates: Bradley, 7.1%, up from 6.8%; Meigs, 9.9%, up from 9.0%; Monroe,
9.9%, up from 9.1%; McMinn, 9.0%, up from 8.3%; Fannin Co. (GA), 8.6%, down
from 8.8 in November.
