Lost hikers found
West Polk Fire and Rescue rescued four lost hikers from the Gee Creek area last weekend. Due to weather conditions, the Fire and Rescue Squad, as well as members of the Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Forest Service and State Parks worked quickly to find the hikers.
Rescuers were eventually able to contact the lost hikers by cell phone as the temperature dropped and rain worsened. The hikers informed authorities that they were unable to move from their spot on the bluffs and that one hiker was in need of medical help.
Officials quickly swept into action, sending advance teams ahead to locate the hikers and begin preparations for a quick extraction.
When the teams reached the hikers, one adult was found in serious condition, with another in danger of the same. Saws, ropes, and baskets to transport the hikers were quickly put in place and the family was rescued without any serious injuries.
