BLOOD DRIVE IN HONOR OF JOSPEH CROSS is scheduled for Monday, November 12, 2012 at Polk County High School The Blood Drive will begin at 8:00 AM at the high school and run up until 7:30 PM. Who Dun It? Mystery Art Fundraiser We invite you to participate in a fundraising event like no other. JAZZY LITTLE CHRISTMAS VII Back by popular demand, The Arts Center will present two nights of JAZZY LITTLE CHRISTMAS VII on November 30 and December 1 in the Sue E. Trotter Theater at The Arts Center. Light hors d’oeuvres, homemade desserts, and a full cash bar will be available at7:00 PM. The show will begin at 7:30 PM. The theme of this year’s Jazzy Little Christmas is simply SNOW! Featured musicians are Pam Thigpen, Jennifer Kinard, Janet Martin, Sarah Baumgardner, Art Kimball, Tim Frazier, Lindsey Nunley, Ellen Kimball, Rusty Patterson, Josh Bragg, Andrew Kimball, Matt Dannel, and Christina Sjoberg. The Christmas theme for the parade this year will be “Christmas Around The World” The parade will be held downtown Copperhill and McCaysville. CHRISTMAS PARADE The Polk County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled the 2012 Christmas parade for Saturday, December 8th at 1:00 pm. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Wonder of Christmas Morning”. We are looking forward to some very creative floats and entries. As always, Santa Claus will make a special appearance. Awards will be given for the best floats in three divisions; Church, Business and Civic/School; one award will be given for the Best Horse & Carriage entry.
The entry fee is $10 per float, car, horse carriage (buggy), etc. Applications can be picked up at the Chamber office in Benton Monday- Friday 9am-3pm. The deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 4th, 2012. This will be the absolute last day for entry.
Horse entries remain the same as before. The fee is $3.00 per horse (without carriage/buggy) at the line -up on the day of the parade (December 13th). Line-up begins at 10:00 for horses. All horses (donkeys, mules, etc.) must have a negative Coggins certificate. If you have any questions, please call 338-5040.
Chief Vann House Historic Site “Christmas by Candlelight” tours on Friday and Saturday December 14th & 15th from 5pm-9pm each evening. The museum at the Vann House will also be open during the event and visitors can view exhibits and a short film before starting the tour. Luminaries will light the paths between the museum and the Vann House. Inside the house, visitors may tour at their own pace and visit with Friends of the Vann House volunteers who will be in every room to share the history of the Vanns and their home. To complete the tour, guests can see four restored Cherokee log buildings, also lit by candles. Hot apple cider and Moravian cookies will be served beside a warm fireplace inside Vann’s reconstructed kitchen. War of 1812 re-enactors will also be present providing demonstrations and answering questions.
The admission is $6.00 for adults, $5.50 for seniors 62 and over, and $ 4.50 for youth ages 6 - 18. Children five and under are free. The Vann House is located on Georgia Highway 225, three miles west of Chatsworth. Please contact the site at 706/695-2598 for more information. SAFE HAVEN Animal Rescue is in need of people who have fenced in yards to foster dogs. We provide all food and veterinary care including spaying and neutering. Our existing foster families are overwhelmed with the number of dogs in our possession. We work hard to find forever homes by advertising on Petfinder and Pooches on the Move.
