School Superintendent Dr. James Jones announced he will present his contract for job renewal at the October School Board meeting. Jones said the contract will include a detailed outline of his plans for the Polk County School system’s future. He will also ask for 4 more years of employment, but said he will not ask for a pay raise, even though he said all other educators in the County got a 2.5% raise that he did not receive.
School Board member Mark Williams said he had several questions for Dr. Jones, regarding a separate matter concerning a court case Jones was involved in earlier this year. Williams said that he had read several Letters to the Editor in the Polk County News that suggested the School system was losing money due to court costs and fees. Williams said he had reviewed spending reports for the past several months and had been unable to find any money allocated to attorney’s fees or court-related costs.
Williams asked Jones directly if he was aware of any fees related to the case or if Jones had spent any money any such things. Jones replied that he had not.
The Board unanimously approved an overnight trip for the Benton Elementary School Junior Beta Club to Nashville over Thanksgiving.
The School Board will meet Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at Benton Elementary School.
