Influenza, or flu, season is here, and the Polk County Health Department is ready to offer flu vaccine to area residents. A flu vaccine clinic will be held at the Benton location on Monday afternoons through October 8th by appointment. Other days and times are available by appointment. At the Copper Basin location, appointments must be made to receive flu vaccine and are now being scheduled at the clinic.
“It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine, so it’s a good idea to get the vaccine as soon as it’s available,” said Eloise Waters, Health Department Director. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine each year, and we urge everyone to take this important preventive step to protect health in our community.”
Flu shots (and/or) FluMist® nasal spray vaccine will be provided. There will be a charge of $25 for each vaccine.
Please call the health department at 338-4533 in Benton or 496-3275 in Copper Basin to book your appointment. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
