Cross Country off and running
The Polk County HS Cross Country Teams had their first meet at Chickamauga Dam. The Girls placed eighth out of ten teams with Shelby Moyers pacing the Ladies by placing 42nd out of 100 runners. Autymn Dalton, Amber Moyers, Serena Tolar, and Holly Merrell rounded out the Polk scoring, finishing 73rd, 75th, 79th, and 80th respectively. Felicia Johnson who is coming off an ankle injury finished 87th. “We still have a long way to go but we are taking it one day at a time. They are putting in the work but we have to be patient and let them develop as runners” stated Coach Travis Carroll.
Though they are very inexperienced the Boys finished ninth out of twenty two teams but, better yet, they finished second out of the Region Teams competing. Joseph Flores led the Wildcat Runners finishing 27th out of 158 runners with a time of 20.19 minutes. “Joseph had a good run on a difficult course and under hot conditions: said Coach Carroll. Brendon Miller, Albert Lewis, Samuel Rogers, and Justin Schoelzel completed Polk’s scoring by finishing 35th, 64th, 65th, and 91st respectively.
“I’m really happy with the way the team is working now. We are definitely a team and we depend on each other for success. Our new runners have really given us a boost in the right direction” concluded Carroll.
The next meet is at Woodland Park Methodist Church on September 11th.
