Students who love to sing and meet new friends from around the community should not miss the opportunity to join the Lee University Children's Chorale. Registration and auditions will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, from 12 p.m.–2 p.m. in the Curtsinger Music Building, Room 118 and Monday, Sept. 10, from 5:30–7 p.m. in the Humanities Building, Room 111.
Lee University Children's Chorale is a community choir, established in 1996 to provide supplemental singing experiences for Cleveland area children, grades 4–6.
Focusing on vocal development, musical training, and performance, the enrichment program is led by new director, Joy Gibbons.
Gibbons said, “The greatest reward of my many years in music education is having had the privilege of encouraging hundreds of students to love music for a lifetime. Many of my former students have gone on to pursue music as a vocation as well as the many I hear from, who, as adults, continue to bless and be blessed by God's gift of music.”
Mrs. Gibbons asks that students be prepared to sing a familiar song of their choice. Students who were members of Chorale in previous semesters must also attend a registration/audition session.
Gibbons has over 25 years of experience as a music educator in the private sector. She has served as pianist, organist and choir director at churches in the Atlanta and Chattanooga areas. Most recently, she was the director of choral music at Hilger Higher Learning as well as the founder of C.H.I.M.E. (Chattanooga Homeschoolers in Music Education).
Gibbons received her Bachelor of Music from Shorter College and is currently working on her Master of Church Music at Lee.
Tuition is $100 for the semester, and parents are responsible for purchasing a uniform. Starting Sept. 17, 2012, rehearsals will be Monday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. in Room 111 of the Humanities Building.
Parents may schedule an audition for the fall semester by calling the Lee University Department of Vocal Music at 423-614-8256.
