First graders have fun on the farm
What vegetable grows underground? What meat do you get from pigs? Why are Bees important?
These are question 1st graders learned by attending Polk County's 17th annual Fun on the Farm Day, held Friday May 18th at the Polk County 4-H Showbarn in Benton. The event was coordinated by the Polk County U.T. Extension. First graders from all Polk County schools attended the day-long event.
Students moved through twelve exhibits including live animals, soils & gardening demonstrations, a farm tractor, butter making, Taste of the Farm, forestry, food games, story time, and Bees. Fun on the Farm Day gave students an understanding of Farm Life and Farm Products.
The coordinators of the Farm Day would like to say thanks to all who helped make Fun on the Farm Day a Big Success: Polk County Soil and Water Conservation, NRCS, Ocoee Region Bee Keepers Association, Melissa Carden, Clarence McClure, Kim Frady, Sanders and Becky Whaley, Bill Trew, Jenny Lyons, United Healthcare, Autumn Boggs & Paige Morgan from the Polk County Health Dept. , TN Division of Forestry, and Polk County 4-H Members.
