Mrs. Delsie Norton Queen, daughter of Mira Wishon Norton and Harvey William
Norton, passed away at Fannin Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 16,
2012, of age related illness. Mrs. Queen, born May 5, 1920, resided in the
Epworth community for the majority of her adult life.
She will be remembered for dedication to Lebanon Baptist Church and the
local community. She was director of Lebanon Baptist Vacation Bible School
for over 30 years and started VBS in many smaller churches during the late
50's and early 60's. She started and promoted Woman's Missionary Union
(WMU) at her church and served as WMU director for Lebanon till 2009 and in
the late 60's as director for Morganton Baptist Association. Mrs. Queen was
instrumental in starting Girls Auxiliary (GA'S) and Acteens at Lebanon. She
was a Sunday School teacher for 60 years ending as teacher of the adult
women's class when she was unable to serve.
She was an early member of the Epworth Homemakers Club and as a result of
the death of her son Donald W. Queen in Vietnam, was a Gold Star Mother.
Mrs. Queen was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Deward R.
Queen, her son Donald W. Queen, her son-in-law Michael T. Kreis, grandsons
Michael Bart and Colin Garth Kreis. Sisters, Elsie Lowman and Dollie Adams,
brothers Thomas, Perry and Johnnie Norton.
She is survived by daughters, Ora Faye Queen Craigie of Pensacola, FL and
Martha Queen Kreis of Epworth, GA; special sister and traveling companion,
Dessie Norton Kinser of Palmetto, GA; brothers, Harley (Edith) Norton of
Blue Ridge, GA and C.J. Norton of Mableton, GA and many beloved nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday February 18th at 2:00 p.m. from the
Lebanon Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Mathis and Rev. David McLendon
officiating. Music was by Linda and Amanda Rigney ,Houston Hutchison and
Carol Thomas. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. Her Nephews and
Great Nephews served as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers were
the Adult Womens Sunday School Class, WMU members and Deacons of Lebanon
