The county commission has voiced opposition to a proposed change in the coon hunting season, which was just approved in the Bear Reserve for this year.

Agenda items include: Campbell Cove Lake committee report, debt management plan, sanitation bids, and several resolutions: • Hwy. 411: The county would adopt the abandoned roadway created by the Hwy. 411 bypass. When the project first begun, the county declined to accept this portion of roadway primarily because of concern about the old bridge. The resolution notes that the county does not wish for this section of state abandoned road to be closed to traffic, so it will accept the roadway for jurisdiction and maintenance. • Reapportionment: The committee will present the latest version of a reapportionment plan, to remain at three districts with three representatives each. There are changes to the first and second district to make them more equal, but the smaller third district will remain as it is – all of East Polk. • Road Superintendent: Daren Waters is recommending that the county commission ask State Rep. Eric Watson and State Sen. Mike Bell pass legislation to change the requirement for Road Superintendent in Polk County to be a high school diploma or GED and four years of road building experience. By state law currently, a Road Superintendent must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one of the following: an engineering diploma with at least two years experience in highway construction or maintenance or a license to practice engineering; four years experience in a supervisory capacity in highway construction or maintenance; A combination of education and experience equivalent to either of the above. The state currently certifies candidates seeking the position. • Surplus property: Four old Sheriff’s Department vehicles could be sold.
