There are countless things to do other than alcohol
and drugs. God has blessed us with an unbelievable thing called nature.
Technology has evolved to an endless amount of trinkets and toys. First and
foremost we have been given a mind to make better choices than alcohol and
drugs.
Choosing to do alcohol and drugs is a horrible
choice to make to begin with. Most teens are beginning to have dreams and goals
for their future. Abusing drugs and alcohol presents a huge risk in “that”
future. Most teens would like to have memorable and meaningful school years.
Doing drugs and alcohol prevents you from having a productive life, not to
mention the consequences of long term use and long term damage.
How could anyone think that being put in Alternative
School for doing drugs or alcohol is cool? Even though school might not be
perfect everyday, we are there fora purpose. So I think we need to make the best of it to ensure a better
life for the future. Be a leader not a follower. There are a lot of sports to
take your mind off doing drugs and alcohol. Preoccupying your time with sports
not only takes your mind in a different direction but is a healthy choice.
Doing drugs and alcohol can lead to doing things that are not controllable.
Sometimes it even makes you do things that you don’t even know you’re doing. It
alters the way you think. You can’t think logically when influenced by alcohol
and drugs. Drugs, alcohol and life don’t mix.
Nature is a natural high. Being outdoors and
participating in outdoor activities are the best care for teenage humps and
bumps in life. Acknowledge the beautiful world we live in is therapy within
itself. Nature is never the same; it’s different everyday. Taking a walk
through the woods, hiking, riding a bike, horseback riding, boating,
swimming-the list goes on and on of things that you choose to do other than
alcohol and drugs. It’s a given. Take a deep breath of fresh air while riding
around in the mountains or sitting on a creek bank. There won’t be any damage
to brain cells or lung cancer for that intake.
Technology has progressed so much that there are so
many productive things that we can do: music, computers, games, astrology, just
to mention a few. There are lots of ways to challenge our gifts. Yes, we all
have gifts. We are all special. We all have purpose in life. Even though things
are not always perfect or the way we want our lives to be, we can overcome
them. We can be in control. We shouldn’t have to resort to drugs and alcohol to
fit in. We all fit in. It’s not always a bed of roses but it’s better than six
foot under.
The governor’s proposal to increase class sizes in the elementary schools, and to base the state’s payments on those maximums, could mean a significant loss of revenue for teaching positions in Polk County.
