The county commission has a full agenda for its regular meeting Nov. 20, 7 p.m. at the Courthouse in Benton.
A key item is the appointment of a commissioner for the Second District to replace Kevin Stephens, who resigned because he is moving to Cleveland. Those interested in the appointment must be a resident of the district and be at least 18 years old. Names may be submitted for consideration by a registered voter of the county either in writing to Chairman Greg Brooks or in person at the meeting. Nominations must be made by a member of the county commission to be voted on, and commissioners may nominate a person whose name has not been turned in. A nominee must get a simple majority vote to be named to the position.
Several library-related discussions are on the agenda. Mark Bishop had indicated that he may be able to get computers donated to the libraries. Ann Dunn with the Library Board will tell the commission about progress to find a new site for the Ducktown library room and the possible need for rent money, which had not been needed for the current location. The Commission will also discuss the next step on the county’s counterclaim to the Friends of the Library lawsuit. The commission is asking for the return of the $50,000 donated to the building effort.
Other agenda items:
• A resolution formalizing the commission’s approved of a line of credit for Copper Basin Hospital District. This has to be sent to the state Comptroller.
• Comments from the Pleasant Grove Community about large trucks on their roads.
• Approval of the appointment of Jimmy Logan as county attorney. Logan is also expected to discuss the rafting tax decision with the commission.
• Approval of budget for schools nutrition program, approval of school system 3-year contract, State Probation and Parole, Daughters of Confederacy final approval, and Economic Research Board appointments.
