Laura M. J. PUBLIC NOTICE
Of the Vacancy and Appointment of the Position of District 2 Polk County Commissioner
There is hereby declared a vacancy in the position of County Commissioner in the 2nd voting district of Polk County, Tennessee and such vacancy may be filled at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Polk County Commission on November 20th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Polk County Court House in Benton.
To be considered for the appointment to the commission you must:
1. Be a resident of the second voting district of Polk County and at least 18 years of age.
2. Not have any reasons under law that you cannot hold a public office.
3. Have your name submitted for consideration by a registered voter of the county either in writing to the chairperson before the meeting or in person at the meeting.
Any person who is turned in for consideration must subsequently be nominated by a member of the county legislative body to be voted on. A member of this body may also nominate a person who has not been turned in for consideration by a registered voter of the county.
Upon nomination, the nominee must obtain the simple majority vote of the county legislative body to receive the appointment.
If a person nominated is not present at the meeting, the person making the nomination shall submit a signed statement from the nominee that the nominee is willing to serve in the position is if appointed.
