Charles Guinn Smith, age 81, of Turtletown, TN, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Charles was a native of the Copper Basinarea and was retired from the Tennessee Copper Company where he worked as a repairman. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping and hunting. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church and a W.W.II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sinclair and Margaret Ethel Dilbeck Smith.
He is survived by children, Jeff Smith of Ducktown, TN, Amy Crawford of Copperhill, TN, Charles Smith, Jr. of Turtletown, TN, Andy Smith of Chatsworth, GA, Leon Pate of Dalton, GA, Richard Pate and Charles Pate, both of Cleveland, TN; brother William E. Smith of Ducktown, TN; sister, Willa Dean Burger of Ducktown, TN; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Lew Crawford and Rev. Terry Gladson officiating. Full military honors were conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Smith to the Michael Crawford Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 930, Ducktown, TN 37326.
