For the first time in twenty years, Copper Basin had their very own band perform at a football game during halftime.
The Copper Basin High School Band is reaching new and exciting goals. For the first time in twenty years, Copper Basin had their very own band perform at a football game during halftime. Donning new uniforms and instruments, thanks to large donations from Glen Springs Holdings and ETC, the students had the tools to look and sound their best.
The marching band, which consists of students in seventh grade through twelfth grade, has 26 members. An additional 18 are enrolled in beginning band. “These students are working hard and enjoy playing music. I’ve never been so proud!” said band director Cara McKinney. “Everyday in class, these kids can’t wait to get started playing and learning. It is a real joy to teach them.”
However, most people do not realize that the band’s classroom is the cafeteria, a 10’x 12’ office stores most of the instruments and uniforms, and a small room in the gymnasium stores the percussion equipment. The band desperately needs a building! In addition, next year’s band will need at least $20,000 for more instruments and uniforms to outfit the growing program.
All are encouraged to help donate what they can. The “Sponsor-A-Band Student” fundraiser is asking $50.00 per child to help cover instrument and uniform expenses for this year. Anyone willing may send their tax-deductible donation to the Copper Basin High School Band at 300 Cougar Drive, Copperhill, TN 37317.
If there are any instruments you are willing to donate, no matter their condition, please contact CBHS at (423) 496-3291 or copperbasinband@windstream.net.
