Nancy Ward descendants visit exhibit
Descendants of Nancy Ward were on hand for the VIP reception prior to the opening of a new exhibit at the Museum of East Tennessee History in Knoxville. “Voices of the Land” includes a display on Nancy Ward, known as the Beloved Woman of the Cherokee, and ring that belonged to her. The display includes the story of the ring, which has been handed down through generations of the Ward family, as well as a brief biography of Nanye-hi and a picture of the statue that was intended for her gravesite but placed in a different cemetery, from which it was stolen. From left, Ann Day Lawrence, Richard Lowery Lawrence, Lamone Lowery Rose and Frank Lowery, eighth generation descendants of Nancy Ward.
