Williams said he did not feel he could give full attention to the city because of work responsibilities.
Mike Williams has resigned as Copperhill city council member, where he served as Vice Mayor. His letter of resignation was presented at Monday night’s council meeting. Williams said he did not feel he could give full attention to the city because of work responsibilities. The letter was accepted and Kathy Stewart was named Vice Mayor.
In other business:
The council unanimously approved a resolution naming the third floor of City Hall the Polly Morgan Room in honor of the long-time member of the Copperhill Kiwanis, which has met in the room for years. The resolution also notes her years of dedication to the community and the fact she was one of the longest-attending students at Cleveland State. Morgan, 89, was killed in an auto accident several years ago.
Hal Williamson asked that the minutes also reflect that the primary use of the room is for the Kiwanis Club, which has put time and effort into renovations. He said the club’s needs should take precedence over other uses for the room.
Wayne Daniel presented three requests for information under the terms of the Open Records law. He had previously asked for information about traffic citations, radar gun certificates of accuracy and calibration sheets. He asked for a response in writing within seven days, as state law requires.
Mayor Herbert Hood reported that the Sheriff’s Department arranged for trustees to come to the old cemetery to help with cleanup work Monday. Barbara Beaver, who has spearheaded the cemetery cleanup, said she had talked to Davis and asked him to have them come once a month, noting the Basin residents are taxpayers too. She added the city should also work at the site monthly, noting it takes twice monthly efforts during the summer to keep the growth down. Paul Perry said he planned to apply for a $25,000 grant once the cemetery is officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He said the interest earned on that money could help with cleanup.
Beaver congratulated Hood on his recent comments during a CNN broadcast about rumors about Barack Obama. She said she appreciated his answers. Hood said he had received both positive and negative comments.
The council approved co-signing a line of credit for Copper Basin Medical Center (see separate story).
