Citizens who want to see what’s been going on behind the gates on the old TCC property will have a chance next week.
Citizens who want to see what’s been going on behind the gates on the old TCC property will have a chance next week. Glenn Springs Holdings is offering van tours of the abandoned mine sites, including McPherson Mine area (wetlands and roast yard), London Mill Flotation plant, tailings pond area, Eureka roast yard, Isabella pit and plant, Tennessee Shaft, including North Potato Creek Water Treatment Plant and open pit, Apache Blast and the Mary Mine area.
Former employees and others familiar with the sites will no doubt be amazed to see the changes, and many of the old structures have been dismantled, now replaced by grasses and trees. Some remnants remain to be used for interpretation of the community’s history in the future.
Four tours are scheduled for July 1, 2, and 3 – at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. On July 4, tours will be 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The tours will leave from the Glenn Springs office on Main Street in Ducktown.
Reservations are required. Call Clara Baine at the Glenn Springs Holdings office, (423) 496-7900. The tours began several years ago and have played to overflowing crowds, with a waiting list last year, so those interested are encouraged to call as soon as possible.
