According to Detective Dennis Waters of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, evidence was collected at the home of Wilcoxon and the investigation is ongoing.
A search warrant was issued for the residence and outbuildings of County Commissioner Fred J. Wilcoxon on May 27th as part of the continuing investigation that stemmed from allegations that he was using a school system propane tank for his personal use.
In April, Director of Schools James Jones said Wilcoxon, like other maintenance people, took things home to work on, and was using the propane tank to work on a lawn mower. It had been alleged that Wilcoxon was using the propane tank to heat his home.
Wilcoxon resigned from the school system at the end of March following accusations by Harold Sutton that he had been given $5500 to close a land deal that never happened.
According to Detective Dennis Waters of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, evidence was collected at the home of Wilcoxon and the investigation is ongoing. Because an elected official is involved, Waters turned the evidence and case file over to the TBI. The TBI was unable to be reached for comment on the case.
