Closing on the purchase of the Bradford building, BMX Park open for business, and the cell tower lease were discussed at the meeting of the Ducktown City Commission last week.
All commissioners were in agreement to give the go-ahead to pay the down payment of $10,000 from the building fund. Also approved was an amendment of the budget to include the addition of a $40,000 grant to revenue and the $30,000.00 city responsibility to be paid out of the Streets and Sidewalk Fund.
Crossroads Communications has approved the site for a cell tower to be put up in Ducktown. Attorney Laura Crawford is reviewing some changes to be made in the lease and it will be send it back to Crossroads for approval. Once approved, the construction of the tower should take about 3 months.
Mayor James Talley reported that the BMX Park is running well and has had a few races already.
Talley suggested selling some lots owned by the city. “We have 3 city lots that aren’t doing anything. It would be more beneficial to auction them off to the public,” he said. Commissioner Brad Miller agreed and said that would be better than having them sit there stagnant. Commissioners also discussing taking back a building sold to Copper Basin Medical Center. The hospital is behind in payment. Talley said it would be good to get the debt off their books and it would be better for the city if the building was used rather than it just sitting there.
