Teachers getting tenure and approval of a field trip for CBHS basketball team were discussed at last week’s Polk County School Board meeting.
Starting off giving approval of teachers up for tenure at South Polk Elementary was principal Rick Warren presenting Holly Cox, Casey Dalton, Angie Munoz, all in the Pre-K department, and Danny Frazier, who teaches 5th grade.
Next was principal Joel Cox of PCHS presenting Sandy Benson, who teaches Health Science and HOSA. Rhonda Arms is in special education.
Darren Danner of CBHS presented Andrea Rymer, who teaches 7th and 8th grade science and Amy McGowan, who is in guidance/computers and also coaches the girls basketball team.
Ronnie German of Chilhowee Middle School presented Casey Gallaher of the PE department, Adam Stone who teaches math, Selena Moses who teaches art, and Jason Bramlett who teaches science.
Pam Thomas of Benton Elementary presented Resource teachers Shannon Davis and JoAnn Hooker and Tammy Williams, who teaches 3rd grade.
All teachers received approval from the board to receive tenure.
Art History was approved as an elective along with Auto Mechanics, and Drivers Education at Copper Basin High School. Parking permit fees were approved, with Danner saying that the money goes into the school’s account for supplies.
Approval for a basketball team field trip to Florida December 26-January 1 was met. Danner explained that there would be about 5-7 games played. He said every team member and member parents were going, including 5 staff members, which puts the number of people going around 86. If they got more to go, the price of the trip would go down even more. He also asked to take school buses and said that mileage would be paid just like any other field trip.
The last item on the agenda was a matter of school bus disciplinary action. School Superintendent James Jones explained that there was an incident where a child got into trouble on the bus and then hit the bus driver in the head. The child has been suspended from riding the bus for the remainder of the year. The parent who was going to address the board was not present at the meeting.
