As a result, the offices of County Clerk and Assessor of Property have been unable to perform all their normal functions.
Saturday’s heavy rain sent water pouring through the roof of the Courthouse, damaging the state’s computer server in the former Clerk of Court’s office on the third floor. Te router and switch are used to connect several courthouse offices directly to the state’s computer system.
As a result, the offices of County Clerk and Assessor of Property have been unable to perform all their normal functions. County Clerk Angie Sanford was hardest hit as she cannot issue driver’s licenses, process applications for new car tags and titles or take business tax money until repair work is done. Sanford said she can take checks from those wanting to renew a license and will mail a receipt when the funds are processed. “It’s had a horrible impact,” she said.
In the Assessor’s office, there is no access to the state system so they cannot make any changes to property files. In addition, they cannot key in the information on personal property that is being submitted.
County Executive Mike Stinnett said he has met with state officials, who hope to have the modems and wiring replaced in a day or two. He said they plan to move the system to another floor of the Courthouse.
